Bleomycin injections are a treatment option for warts that have not responded to other treatments, such as topical agents or cryotherapy.
Bleomycin is an anti-cancer drug that prevents cells from dividing by damaging their DNA and RNA. Dr. Ratner dilutes this medication to reduce the risk of damaging healthy tissue and injects it very superficially into the skin, which produces an immune response.
While some patients respond after one treatment, others require multiple treatments to eradicate their warts completely. Even after the warts are gone, patients need to be monitored by their medical dermatologist, as warts can sometimes recur.
